A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Inner Mongolia Mobile, a China Mobile subsidiary serving millions across the Autonomous Region, faced slow storage response times, poor data reliability, siloed resources and an inability to unify management across heterogeneous arrays. Hitachi Vantara stepped in with a cloud storage solution built around the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) and complementary software (Hitachi Dynamic Provisioning, Tiered Storage Manager, Universal Volume Manager) plus SAN implementation and data migration services to virtualize and consolidate EMC, Oracle (Sun), StorageTek and HP arrays.
Hitachi Vantara implemented VSP-based virtualization to pool multivendor storage, enable dynamic tiering and online data migration, and provide a single management interface. As a result Inner Mongolia Mobile consolidated its storage, improved overall I/O and response times, enabled nondisruptive expansion and migration, simplified day-to-day management, and improved ROI through better utilization of existing assets and on-demand provisioning.
