A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
The University of Queensland’s Queensland Brain Institute faced rapidly growing data volumes from imaging, genomics and simulations—one instrument can produce 7 TB/hour and researchers manage a 22 PB research data lake—creating an urgent need for higher-performance storage and networking. To address this, the institute turned to Hitachi Vantara, deploying Hitachi hybrid flash storage and Virtual Storage Platform systems (with Hitachi Accelerated Flash) alongside high-speed Brocade Fibre Channel networking to modernize its data center.
Hitachi Vantara’s storage arrays, paired with Brocade G620 16/32 Gb Fibre Channel switches, delivered a low-latency, high-throughput infrastructure that supports the 22 PB data lake and accelerates transfers from instruments to compute. The upgrade doubled effective throughput per port, dramatically cut analysis time—turning a clinical study that once took six months into a process that can be completed in about a week—and enabled faster discovery, more ambitious experiments, increased publications and improved competitiveness for grants.
