Hitachi Supports German Thriftiness, Helps to Reduce Costs and Enhance Performance at Tübingen University Hospital

Tübingen University Hospital faced rapidly growing volumes of unstructured data, rising maintenance costs on legacy storage, and the need to consolidate disparate systems while keeping costs low and performance high. To address this, the hospital selected Hitachi Vantara (with partner Cristie) and deployed Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS) 3080 systems, Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS) 130 arrays and Hitachi TrueCopy replication software to replace aging SANs and centralize file services.

Hitachi Vantara delivered a sync‑replicated NAS solution that added almost 400 TB of raw capacity, enabled multitenancy and private‑cloud services, and provided audit‑compliant long‑term retention and business continuity via TrueCopy/SyncDR. The new environment cut storage costs to roughly one third compared with previous SAN storage, improved performance and SLAs for 9,000+ staff, and scales toward an anticipated 750 TB (up to 4 PB design) while minimizing disruption to critical applications.
