A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Klinikum Wels-Grieskirchen, Austria’s fifth-largest hospital (1,227 beds, ~3,500 staff, treating over 78,600 patients annually), was struggling with rapidly growing clinical and administrative data — in excess of 800 TB — driven by imaging, genomics and e‑health initiatives and requiring long‑term, compliant archiving and cross‑system access. To address this, the hospital engaged Hitachi Vantara to build a private cloud using unified storage and information‑management technologies, including HUS VM, HUS 150, Hitachi Content Platform and the Hitachi Clinical Repository.
Hitachi Vantara implemented a multitier private‑cloud platform with HUS VM/HUS 150 for virtualization and scalability, HCP for object‑level archiving, and the Hitachi Clinical Repository plus Data Discovery Suite for metadata‑driven search and interoperability. The solution centralized and secured more than 800 TB of clinical and administrative data, enabled searchable access across PACS, MIS and other systems (supporting retention up to 30 years), improved clinical workflows and data mobility, and delivered high availability and cost‑efficient storage.
