Hitachi Data Systems Helps Jiangsu Province Hospital Upgrade Its Picture Archiving and Communications System

Jiangsu Province Hospital, a large 3A integrated medical, teaching and research center in Jiangsu province, faced rapid growth in PACS image data (about 30 GB/day in 2010 and an estimated 58 TB over five years) that its legacy storage could not handle. The hospital turned to Hitachi Vantara for a file-and-content storage solution, deploying Hitachi NAS Platform 3080 alongside Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2500 systems to provide scalable SAN/NAS services and automated archiving.

Hitachi Vantara implemented a unified architecture—two AMS 2500 arrays for high-performance SAS and high-capacity SATA tiers with an HNAS 3080 front end and data-migrator policies to move data older than six months to near-line storage. The deployment delivered measurable gains: each HNAS 3080 node can provide ~700 MB/s and 60,000 IOPS, doctor image-load times fell from minutes to seconds, system reboot time dropped from hours to minutes, archive efficiency and storage utilization improved, and the solution scales up to multiple petabytes to meet future PACS growth.
