Hebei Unicom - Customer Case Study

Hebei Unicom, a major telecommunications and information services provider in Hebei province, needed a centralized virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to deliver personalized desktops and applications across thousands of terminals. Facing high concurrent I/O, daily “boot storm” logins and a requirement to unify file and block data with flexible scalability, Hebei Unicom engaged Hitachi Vantara to supply a file-and-content storage solution using Hitachi NAS Platform 3080, Hitachi Unified Storage 150 and SSD + tiered storage.

Hitachi Vantara implemented a dual‑node HNAS 3080 cluster plus HUS 150 shared SAN/NAS platform, SSD tiering and storage provisioning services to offload file I/O and absorb peak login loads. The deployment eliminated login I/O bottlenecks and unified structured and unstructured data; a single HNAS node can deliver up to 700 MB/s throughput and ~40,000 IOPS, configured 200 GB SSDs deliver ~5,000 IOPS (>10× traditional disks), and the solution scales to hundreds of disks—resulting in markedly improved VDI responsiveness and a better user experience for Hebei Unicom.
