Government of Andhra Pradesh State (India) uses real-time governance to transform citizen services and improve quality of life

The Government of Andhra Pradesh partnered with Hitachi Vantara to create a Real Time Governance (RTG) center using Hitachi’s Smart Spaces Solution/Enterprise Intelligence and the Hitachi Visualization Suite. The state’s challenge was to integrate IoT sensors, surveillance cameras, video analytics and data from 30+ departments across a population of 53 million to improve public safety and welfare, deliver real‑time analytics for agriculture, and provide timely disaster warnings and coordinated relief.

Hitachi Vantara (via Hitachi Consulting) designed, built and now manages the RTG center and Hitachi Visualization Suite as a single pane of glass, consolidating departmental data, linking drones and cameras (an initial 5,000 cameras with 22,000 planned), and enabling real‑time decision making. The solution cut citizen service times at ration shops to 5–10 minutes, helped rescue an abducted infant within 48 hours and capture suspects within hours, produced soil health cards and targeted farming support, and centralized disaster response and evacuation coordination across the state.
