Global Financial Leader Consolidates Mainframe Storage and Reduces Costs With Hitachi Dynamic Tiering

Global Financial Leader needed to consolidate sprawling mainframe test and development storage to lower costs, simplify management and improve scalability and performance. They engaged Hitachi Vantara, deploying Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP/VSP G1000) with Hitachi Dynamic Tiering and a mix of flash, SAS and nearline drives to position test/dev closer to production and automate data placement.

Hitachi Vantara implemented a single ~700TB VSP, migrated more than 600TB, and configured HDT pools to automate tiering and boost I/O efficiency. The result: host response times improved about 2x, workloads handled up to 55% more I/O, environmental costs were cut in half, and the company realized six‑figure savings in software, hardware and facility expenses while simplifying performance management.
