Foshan University Supports Business Applications With Hitachi Unified Storage Solution

Foshan University, a full-time undergraduate institution in Guangdong, faced rapid growth in unstructured data across teaching resources, e‑books, library systems, all‑in‑one card services and administrative applications. Relying on an aging SAN‑only storage platform, the university needed a unified solution to support expanding services and improve file sharing and data management. They chose Hitachi Vantara’s Hitachi Unified Storage 130 (HUS 130) to address these challenges.

Hitachi Vantara implemented an integrated SAN+NAS HUS 130 platform with CIFS/NFS file services, Fibre Channel SAN capacity, snapshot/cloning for local backup, and VDI support—enabling the creation of hundreds of virtual desktops and fast access to unstructured courseware. The migration was seamless with minimal downtime; post‑deployment the university reported faster, more efficient file sharing, enhanced data protection with multiple snapshot copies, scalable capacity for massive file volumes, and a lower total cost of ownership. Hitachi Vantara’s solution also positioned Foshan University for future disaster recovery and data lifecycle management.
