A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
ElectraLink, which operates the U.K.’s Data Transfer Service connecting more than 250 gas and electricity companies and handling large and growing volumes of smart‑meter data, confronted an enormous, costly and labor‑intensive process to extract, anonymize and standardize datasets for customers. To modernize its data operations, ElectraLink selected Hitachi Vantara and deployed Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics to create a single, lean data‑management platform.
Hitachi Vantara integrated data from multiple sources (AWS, Vertica, Egnyte) on the Pentaho platform and automated nightly ETL, orchestration and delivery to a secure FTP portal. As a result hundreds of millions of data flows are now automatically extracted and transformed, a four‑person team can focus on new subscription and analytics products (including a unique embedded generation dataset), manual manipulation has been drastically reduced, and ElectraLink is positioned to offer real‑time API access and faster time to market.
