DZ BANK AG Supports Flexible and Transparent Billing With Capacity-on-Demand Solution From Hitachi

DZ Bank, the central institution for more than 900 cooperative banks and ~12,000 branch offices and one of Germany’s largest banks by assets, faced rapidly growing data volumes and needed a more flexible, transparent cost model — shifting from capex to opex. To meet this challenge the bank partnered with Hitachi Vantara to design a capacity-on-demand solution, deploying Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform systems with Hitachi Accelerated Flash and tiering/software services to support a modern, manageable storage architecture.

Hitachi Vantara implemented a customized capacity-on-demand model with two mirrored VSP systems and gold/silver/bronze storage pools, billing based on measured consumption (monthly measurements aggregated into a six-month midyear value) and a five‑year operating agreement. The solution gave DZ Bank predictable opex billing, easier self-management of pools, monthly capacity tests and quarterly planning reviews, and proved resilient to sudden growth (an 18‑month re-integration of systems was handled through renegotiation), delivering greater cost transparency, control and planning certainty.
