A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Region Nordjylland (Region Nord), the regional council running healthcare for nearly 600,000 people in northern Denmark, faced rapidly growing digital workloads (data and backups rising ~44% annually), siloed infrastructure, limited server space and the need to virtualize and deliver mobile access to clinical systems. To address these challenges they selected Hitachi Vantara (with Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform, VSP G1000, Hitachi NAS Platform, Hitachi Compute Blades, Hitachi Accelerated Flash and Hitachi Global Solution Services) to build a converged, virtualized IT environment.
Hitachi Vantara implemented a converged solution—VSP storage and global-active clustering, HNAS for file consolidation, Compute Blades and Brocade SAN plus Hitachi services—to virtualize servers and enable VDI. The deployment commissioned 451 new virtual servers in 2014, delivered 75% clinician VDI adoption in year one, cut login times in half, virtualized over 85% of servers (target ~95%), and produced annual energy savings of more than 1.2 million kWh (plus ~450 kWh cooling savings) with Hitachi Accelerated Flash reducing energy use ~30% vs SAS drives, while providing active‑active availability across sites.
