Delta Dental of Virginia Adopts Pentaho

Delta Dental of Virginia needed to move from a proprietary reporting tool to an open-source business intelligence solution that could be implemented quickly and integrated with its customer‑facing website and internal systems to deliver reporting to 4,000+ group administrators across Virginia. To meet that challenge they selected Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho platform, licensing Pentaho Business Analytics and Pentaho Data Integration to provide end‑to‑end BI, integration, reporting and dashboards.

Hitachi Vantara implemented Pentaho (including Pentaho Reporting, Pentaho Analysis/Mondrian and PDI) to integrate with the DDVA claims system and website, delivering management reports through the site in about 15 months and a monthly‑refreshed interactive reporting portal. The solution enabled self‑service analytics, faster decisions, greater visibility into group administrator data and fraud detection, and replaced several proprietary tools (including Oracle Discoverer); more than 35,000 users now rely on the system. As a result, Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho reduced costs, automated manual tasks and helped Delta Dental of Virginia become a more data‑driven organization.
