CSCS Needed a Centralized Data Warehouse

CSCS Swiss National Computing Centre, a leading European supercomputing center, faced a lack of centralized data warehousing and reporting — manual CPU data gathering took two to three weeks across tens of millions of rows and roughly 10 PB of data, making it hard to scale operations, optimize costly equipment utilization, and meet daily government reporting requirements. To solve this, CSCS turned to Hitachi Vantara and its Pentaho products, including Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics.

Hitachi Vantara deployed the Pentaho platform to centralize and blend supercomputer CPU metrics with SAP financials and cloud/on‑premises data, and provided deployment assurance services. The solution automated data processing, eliminated the multi-week manual CPU data collection, enabled near‑real‑time dynamic daily reports for management and public metrics, and improved equipment utilization — increasing productivity and profit margins for CSCS.
