A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Onlanta Ltd., a Russian cloud and IT outsourcing provider, faced rapidly growing customer demand and an inflexible, multi-vendor storage environment that struggled to meet SLAs and real-time volume distribution needs. To address performance, scalability and reliability gaps, Onlanta turned to Hitachi Vantara and deployed Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM) with Hitachi Accelerated Flash and related software tools to virtualize and consolidate its storage infrastructure.
Hitachi Vantara’s HUS VM and HAF modules enabled non-disruptive migration, tiered storage and deep VMware integration, delivering large gains in throughput and efficiency: sequential I/O rose from ~1–1.2 GB/s to 5–6 GB/s, average response times fell from 8–10 ms to 1–2 ms, and IOPS climbed from 35,000 to 140,000. Customers reported 7–8x overall performance improvements (some operations up to 10x faster), while Onlanta cut footprint and energy use by 50% and optimized storage costs by about 20%, making scaling and resource allocation far simpler.
