A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
COIG S.A., a long-established Polish IT provider to the mining industry, faced rising operations and maintenance costs from an aging, fragmented storage environment that consumed roughly 20 kW and occupied nearly six rack cabinets. To consolidate storage, improve performance and predictably scale capacity and costs, COIG selected Hitachi Vantara’s Hitachi Unified Storage VM (HUS VM) platform together with Hitachi Command Suite.
Hitachi Vantara deployed two HUS VM systems to consolidate COIG’s diverse arrays, replacing 176 TB of usable capacity with an initial 400 TB (later expanded to >500 TB per system) in just 44 rack units versus the previous 251 RU, while enabling growth to multi‑petabyte capacity. The implementation cut direct power draw from ~20 kW to below 6 kW (about a threefold reduction), freed data‑center space, simplified management, lowered support and TCO, and improved performance and availability for COIG’s mission‑critical applications.
