A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
Tequila, a Mexican town of about 40,000, needed to boost tourism and create jobs but was hampered by fragmented data and growing pressure on infrastructure. To pursue a smart‑city vision and improve connectivity, mobility and visitor experience, the town partnered with Hitachi Vantara and adopted solutions including Lumada Video Insights, Hitachi Smart Spaces and Hitachi Video Analytics.
Hitachi Vantara deployed a network of sensors, APs and 15 cameras, HVA modules (Traffic Analyzer, Parking Space Analyzer, People Counter, Social Media Analytics) and a command center to capture, integrate and analyze real‑time data. The initiative helped Tequila better manage parking, footfall and safety, supported collaboration among local businesses, and contributed to major gains in tourism and employment—visitors rising from 131,000 in 2005 to an expected 1.4 million in 2020 and tourism jobs growing from roughly 450 to more than 5,000—along with reduced migration and broader social and economic benefits.
