China Merchants Securities Hong Kong - Customer Case Study

China Merchants Securities Hong Kong, a subsidiary of China Merchants Securities, needed a more resilient, scalable IT platform to support retail and futures trading, clearing systems and improved internal file sharing and virtual desktop infrastructure across 12+ markets. After a proof of concept against EMC and NetApp, the firm selected Hitachi Vantara to replace a single, limited physical file server with enterprise storage solutions including the Hitachi NAS Platform 3080 and Hitachi Unified Storage 100 to host mission‑critical trading systems and build a private cloud for VDI.

Hitachi Vantara deployed clustered HNAS 3080 heads with HUS 100 (and AMS storage) to enable active‑standby failover, on‑demand node expansion and SAN/NAS consolidation. The solution was installed within two weeks, migrated by July 2013, and delivered measurable benefits: elimination of a single point of failure, fast CIFS performance, daily snapshots (HNAS 3080 supports up to 1,024 snapshots per file system), 10 TB allocated for VMs and file sharing, removal of ~2 hours/week in file‑server maintenance, improved data protection and stronger support toward the firm’s 99.9% availability target.
