A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
CERN, the European nuclear research organization with more than 15,000 users and roughly 2,500 staff on site, needed a compliant, secure, unified analytics and reporting platform and data warehouse to replace outgrown commercial and home‑grown systems handling some 650,000 report executions per year. To meet strict security, governance and complex access‑control requirements, CERN selected Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho platform—specifically Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics—to provide a single 360‑degree view of operational data.
Hitachi Vantara implemented Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics with partner Ancud IT, automating ETL to create a near real‑time data warehouse, embedding analytics via web services, and extending Pentaho’s security model (using a Mondrian‑based rules engine and custom access layer) for granular access control. The result: faster, easier reports and improved query/execution performance, automated near real‑time data flows, rollout to thousands of users, and a roadmap to replace the majority of CERN’s legacy reporting systems with Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho platform.
