Cargill realizes rapid results through operational excellence

Cargill, a global manufacturer and marketer active across nutrition, agriculture and industry, needed to become more competitive amid seasonal demand and rising raw material costs. Two key plants in the Netherlands were targeted to restore accountability, tighten cost control and drive behavioral change. Hitachi Vantara provided Manufacturing Solution and Digital and Manufacturing Consulting (delivered through the Catalyst Project) to assess the sites and lead the transformation.

Hitachi Vantara applied its Closework® approach to diagnose issues across production, energy, logistics, maintenance and procurement, then implemented aligned processes, performance management and a robust vendor-management and procurement restructure. The work delivered rapid, measurable gains — including a 25% reduction in time lost to production bottlenecks and operational savings worth millions of Euros per year from yield, energy and productivity improvements — and established clear KPIs, roles and a sustained continuous-improvement culture.
