Bringing Ancient Traditions to Life With an Interactive Exhibition

Fundação Oriente, which operates Museu do Oriente in Lisbon, wanted to make its exhibitions more interactive and immersive to better engage modern visitors. To support a major new exhibition, “Japan: Festivities and Rites,” the museum partnered with **Hitachi Vantara** and used **Hitachi 3D Lidar Sensor** technology, along with professional and digital services, to create a more active visitor experience within a tight five-month timeline and limited budget.

**Hitachi Vantara** installed Lidar sensors and helped develop animated audiovisual scenarios featuring the Kappa character that responded to visitors’ movements as they walked through the exhibition. The project launched on time, welcomed about **300 visitors on opening day**, and was expected to attract **around 150,000 visitors** in total. The museum reported improved visitor engagement and satisfaction, and said the technology would serve as a pilot for making future exhibitions more interactive.
