A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
BMC Software, a global IT management software leader, was struggling with hundreds of heterogeneous storage devices across eight data centers—nearly 2PB of capacity—resulting in high maintenance costs, latency, and limited visibility. To consolidate storage and improve performance and manageability, BMC partnered with Hitachi Vantara and deployed Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP), Hitachi NAS Platform (HNAS 3080) and Hitachi Command Suite, with implementation and migration services from Hitachi’s global team.
Hitachi Vantara virtualized and consolidated BMC’s multivendor arrays onto five VSPs and an HNAS cluster, migrating quarterly growth (about 50TB) off legacy arrays and providing a single management interface via Hitachi Command Suite. The result was widespread migration to Hitachi systems, substantial savings in maintenance and support, clear performance improvements with no downtime, and simplified administration (one administrator per major platform), enabling faster migrations and reduced operational risk.
