Ballast Nedam Acquires Flexible Hitachi Infrastructure for Complex Storage Needs, Future-Proofs Fast-Growing IT Environment

Ballast Nedam, one of the Netherlands’ largest construction and engineering firms with roughly 3,800 employees and over 120 active sites, faced rapidly growing and fragmented data needs (about 73 TB and more than 100% growth year‑on‑year). The company needed flexible, secure, high‑performance central storage and fast file sharing for remote offices while lowering total cost of ownership. To modernize its legacy environment it selected Hitachi Vantara and deployed Hitachi Unified Storage (HUS110 and HUS VM), Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Data Ingestor and related software.

Hitachi Vantara implemented a consolidated, scalable platform—HUS110/HUS VM with Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Data Ingestor, TrueCopy replication, Hitachi Data Protection Suite and Dynamic Tiering—providing centralized management, real‑time replication, archive and simplified SharePoint support for remote sites. The deployment improved IT efficiency, guaranteed faster and secure file sharing, consolidated storage and curtailed rising costs; measurable impacts include a doubling of Ballast Nedam’s data deduplication ratio, increased employee productivity and clear scalability to support future growth.
