At Oktobor Animation, Hitachi NAS Platform Supports Staggering Growth and Aesthetic Innovation

Oktobor Animation, a fast-growing Auckland-based CG studio that scaled from about 30 to 140 artists and produced roughly 500 minutes of animation in 18 months, was facing severe storage bottlenecks that slowed artists, stalled the render farm and hurt morale. To resolve these issues the studio turned to Hitachi Vantara and its Hitachi NAS Platform solution, seeking performance, scalability and reliability for a demanding production environment.

Hitachi Vantara deployed a Hitachi NAS Platform 3090 (about 42 TB total: 9.8 TB Tier 1 SAS and ~32.7 TB Tier 2) to support artists, render farms and post-production with no downtime during transition. The result was immediate: files that once took ~40 minutes to open now load in 1–2 minutes, help-desk complaints fell to “maybe 5 minutes a week,” productivity and morale improved, overtime dropped and the render farm no longer bottlenecks production.
