Case Study: Cipal achieves rapid KPI transparency and self-service reporting with Hitachi Vantara's Pentaho

Analytics and Big Data Aid the Public Sector

Cipal, a Belgian public‑sector ICT provider, was tasked with helping municipalities and social welfare organizations comply with new legislation requiring public planning and KPI reporting. To deliver a tailored, OEM‑branded BI application called Athena BI, Cipal selected Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho solution—including Pentaho Data Integration and Pentaho Business Analytics—to integrate disparate HR, financial and CRM data into a single reporting platform.

Hitachi Vantara’s Pentaho platform was embedded into Athena BI and deployed as a multitenant, cloud‑hosted service (with BiSmart support for end‑user training). The full Pentaho stack delivered ETL, dashboards, reporting and analysis, enabling Cipal to launch the pilot to four social welfare associations in just four months. As a result, HR managers can now build and customize their own reports, Athena BI will be rolled out to more organizations, and Cipal benefits from a lower total cost of ownership and faster time‑to‑value thanks to Hitachi Vantara’s solution.
