A Multi-Partner Program to Restore Competitiveness to the Dutch Railways

ProRail, the state-owned manager of the Dutch national rail network (6,500 km of track and related infrastructure), faced urgent pressure to improve punctuality and reliability and to collaborate more effectively with three maintenance contractors. To tackle this, ProRail launched the OPC+ Program and engaged Hitachi Vantara (following the integration with Hitachi Consulting) using solutions and services including Smart Spaces Solution, Hitachi Process Intelligence Solution and Enterprise Intelligence to drive new performance standards.

Hitachi Vantara implemented MCRS®, co‑designed new maintenance-management processes and jointly agreed KPIs, and led change-management workshops with 40 senior managers to shift from hands-on to eyes-on asset management while ensuring knowledge transfer. The OPC+ rollout delivered measurable impact: service failures fell by 25% within two years and approximately €43.5M in efficiency improvements were realized, embedding a “Right the first time” culture across ProRail.

ProRail
