Banorte Builds a Future-Ready Platform for Digital Banking Innovation

Banorte, one of Mexico’s largest commercial banks, needed to build a future-ready platform for digital banking while reducing the risk posed by its aging data center in Mexico City after the 2017 earthquake. Working with Hitachi Vantara, the bank prepared to migrate its mainframe environment and support its customer-facing retail and digital services with Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) storage.

Hitachi Vantara helped Banorte migrate 450 TB of data to a new data center built around two IBM z16 servers and three Hitachi VSP 5600 arrays, using Hitachi Universal Replicator for the transition. The result was a 20% increase in application performance, transaction response times cut in half, nightly batch processing reduced by 30%, and zero data loss during the migration, while also increasing storage capacity by more than 20% and reducing rack space by 50%.
