A Hitachi Vantara Case Study
The University of Kent worked with Hitachi Vantara and partner Trustmarque to modernize its aging storage environment as hardware neared end of life and cyber risks increased. The university needed a more resilient, always-on platform to support more than 300 applications, research workloads, and student services while improving disaster recovery and service continuity.
Hitachi Vantara provided a highly available storage architecture built on Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP), Hitachi NAS (HNAS) Platform 5300, Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), and Hitachi global-active device (GAD), with Veeam Backup & Replication for backup copies. The new solution increased total storage capacity 4X, cut recovery time objective by 80%, enabled file backups about 95% faster, and allowed a switchover with zero downtime for end users, while improving security and resilience with multiple snapshot backups.
