Preview of the HDFC Bank Case Study

Fast-Growing Indian Bank Trusts Hitachi to Improve Storage Management for Its Retail Business Activities

HDFC Bank, the second-largest private bank in India, needed to upgrade its storage infrastructure to handle rapid growth in transactional volumes, especially for loan processing and other retail banking activities. Its existing NAS/SAN setup was strained by daily workloads, slow and costly off-site retrieval, backup window pressure, and concerns about document loss, security, and long-term preservation. HDFC Bank turned to Hitachi Data Systems and Hitachi Content Platform 500, along with the Waves Image Repository, to create a more reliable digital repository for scanned loan documents.

Hitachi Data Systems implemented a centralized, object-based storage solution with HCP 500 to improve scalability, archiving, and disaster recovery, while also adding stronger access controls and easier management through a web-based GUI. The deployment was completed in just 15 days and delivered faster document retrieval, reduced duplication, improved security, and better customer service. With capacity scaling up to 40PB and cloud-readiness built in, Hitachi Data Systems helped HDFC Bank consolidate storage and significantly improve reliability, availability, and document preservation.
