Cost-Effective Hitachi Storage Solution Manages Data Growth for Saarland University Hospital

Saarland University Hospital needed to keep pace with explosive data growth across its hospital information systems and PACS imaging environment, while maintaining nonstop access for about 3,000 concurrent users. After years of relying on Hitachi Data Systems storage, the hospital sought a high-capacity NAS platform and chose the Hitachi NAS Platform 3080, alongside existing Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2500 infrastructure, to handle increasing unstructured data and performance demands.

Hitachi Data Systems implemented the solution with Cristie, migrating PACS data without downtime by splitting it across 30 LUNs and coordinating the transfer across six servers. The result was more than 100TB of additional storage capacity, high availability across two sites, and reliable failover using Hitachi TrueCopy, while the hospital reported smooth collaboration and that the Hitachi NAS Platform 3080 met its quality expectations.
