COIG Consolidates Disk Storage Systems With Hitachi Unified Storage VM

COIG S.A., an IT services provider for the mining sector, needed to replace an aging, costly storage environment that was difficult to scale and maintain. Its existing mass storage systems were consuming high power, taking up nearly six rack cabinets, and nearing performance limits, prompting the company to look for a more efficient solution from Hitachi Data Systems using Hitachi Unified Storage VM.

Hitachi Data Systems implemented a consolidated storage environment with two Hitachi Unified Storage VM systems and Hitachi Command Suite. The result was a dramatic improvement in space, power, and manageability: power consumption dropped from about 20 kW to under 6 kW, rack usage fell from 251 rack units to 44, and usable capacity grew from 176 TB to more than 500 TB per system after expansion. COIG S.A. also gained better performance control, fewer delays in critical workloads, and a storage platform expected to meet needs for 5–6 years without major reinvestment.
