Carilion Clinic and Hitachi Data Systems Intelligently Connect the Healthcare Enterprise With a Fully Integrated Solution

Carilion Clinic, a Virginia-based healthcare provider, needed a smarter way to connect clinical data across the enterprise, improve access to the full patient care journey, and support mobility and future analytics. Working with Hitachi Data Systems, it chose Hitachi Clinical Repository (HCR) to unify disparate applications and manage both DICOM and non-DICOM data in a scalable, integrated environment.

Hitachi Data Systems implemented HCR to consolidate systems, create a universal view of patient information, and streamline data migration without disrupting clinical workflows. The solution now hosts more than four million records, stores 95% of radiological data, and enabled migration at 225,000 records per day, or nearly 8TB daily, helping Carilion improve interoperability, speed access to records, and prepare for clinical analytics and population health management.
