Ballast Nedam Acquires Flexible Hitachi Infrastructure for Complex Storage Needs, Future-Proofs Fast-Growing IT Environment

Ballast Nedam, one of the Netherlands’ largest construction and engineering companies, faced rapidly growing data volumes across more than 45 construction sites and needed a cost-effective way to centralize storage, improve remote file sharing, and future-proof its legacy IT environment. The company’s older system was reaching full capacity, making it difficult and expensive to manage approximately 73TB of data, including critical drawings and regulatory files. Hitachi Data Systems was selected to help address these complex storage and access challenges.

Hitachi Data Systems implemented a flexible platform using Hitachi Unified Storage 110, Hitachi Unified Storage VM, Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Data Ingestor, Hitachi TrueCopy, Hitachi Data Protection Suite, and Hitachi Dynamic Tiering. The solution consolidated storage, improved archiving and replication, and made file sharing faster and more secure across remote sites. As a result, Ballast Nedam significantly improved IT efficiency, cut storage costs, doubled its data deduplication ratio, and boosted employee productivity with scalable storage designed for continued growth.
