Walmart faced the challenge of hiring at massive scale in a volatile retail environment, including more than 3 million applicants a year and a surge that led to over 400,000 new hires in just four months during COVID-19. To support hiring across its 4,700 stores, Walmart partnered with HireVue, using a custom pre-hire assessment based on Modern Hire’s Virtual Job Tryout to better evaluate retail associate candidates.
HireVue implemented a multi-media, multi-method assessment that gave candidates realistic job previews and simulations while providing recruiters with an objective, automated way to screen applicants. The solution helped Walmart identify candidates more likely to perform well, learn faster, be more productive, and stay longer; the impact was significant enough for Walmart’s Retail Associate Assessment to win the 2019-2020 HRM Impact Award.
