How video interviewing standardised international interview process

Queen’s University Belfast’s Centre for Dental Education needed a way to standardize its Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) admissions process for international dental applicants without losing the structure and objectivity of its face-to-face interviews. The school wanted a consistent way to assess non-cognitive skills such as communication, empathy, and professionalism across UK/EU and non-EU candidates, and it turned to HireVue for video interviewing.

HireVue enabled Queen’s University Belfast to move the MMI online while keeping the same scoring and review process, with interviewers watching and grading responses in pairs. The result was a fairer, more flexible process that reduced travel costs for international applicants and saved staff time, while preserving reliability and objectivity; the university said the approach worked very well and helped them identify the best candidates.
