A Hirevue Case Study
BDO Australia, part of the global BDO network with more than 1,200 staff across offices nationally, recruits cadets, graduates, vacation students and experienced professionals. Facing high application volumes, competition for talent, and a pattern of candidates who did not present well at assessment centers, BDO sought a digital solution to better shortlist applicants, communicate its employer value proposition, and reduce the burden of in-person assessment days.
BDO introduced video interviewing (Sonru) as an extra shortlisting stage before online testing, primarily for entry-level roles (and for experienced hires in Cairns). Results included an increase in applications (238 to 323), a 50% reduction in assessment center days, a drop in candidates invited to assessment centers (18% to 10% of applicants), and an improved conversion rate from offers to roles filled (55% to 71%). Hiring managers reported better insight into candidate fit, and candidates gave strong feedback—89% completion, 96% completed at home and 98% said they would do a video interview again.
