Atlanta Public Schools Hires A+ With HireVue

Atlanta Public Schools, a large urban district serving students across 80 schools, faced the challenge of identifying top teachers and principals with a recruiting staff of one, limited resources, and no centralized candidate screening. With more than 300 annual teacher hires and high stakes for placement, the district needed a scalable, consistent way to source and evaluate talent nationally.

In 2015 APS adopted HireVue’s video interviewing and OnDemand assessments district-wide, building a centralized talent pool and embedding performance tasks into selection for teachers, principals and even in-house school police. The shift produced immediate gains: 100% of vacancies filled by the first day of school, a 66% drop in student criminal incidents, roughly $200K saved in one year, 90% retention for newly hired officers, and a talent pool comprised of the top 2% of applicants.
