UMC Health System - Customer Case Study

UMC Health System, a 390‑bed Level I Trauma Center in Lubbock, Texas that serves more than 300,000 patients a year and employs nearly 3,000 staff, faced a critical communications challenge: its legacy manual call‑down phone tree was too slow and unreliable for trauma call‑outs where response time can mean life or death. To meet strict Trauma I call‑out and compliance requirements and to support multi‑device notifications across pagers, cell phones and PDAs, UMC selected HipLink Software to provide an automated, web‑based messaging and paging solution.

HipLink Software implemented a web portal and permissioning engine that sends rapid text alerts and multi‑channel notifications to approximately 40 trauma recipients and broader hospital groups, enabling authorized users to launch messages from any computer. The system improved mobilization and ensured the right personnel are contacted quickly to meet Trauma I response needs, and has expanded to hospital‑wide alerts (severe weather, fire, bed capacity) and programs like “No One Dies Alone,” demonstrating measurable reach across a 390‑bed facility and thousands of staff while helping UMC meet compliance and operational goals.
