Chicago O’Hare International Airport - Customer Case Study

Chicago O’Hare International Airport, one of the busiest air terminals handling over 65 million passengers and nearly 900,000 flights annually, faced critical communication challenges: notifying and assembling the right responders across departments, agencies, and emergency services was slow and labor-intensive. Their legacy paging system required 500 dedicated terminals and modems, with operator intervention for every page; follow-ups, escalations, and re-sends could take hours. To modernize and centralize wireless messaging, they evaluated options and selected HipLink Application Messaging from HipLink Software.

HipLink Software implemented a web-based HipLink solution that leverages Internet and analog protocols, carrier failover, modular scalability, web GUI access, custom escalation rules, and logical Departments grouping with distributed administration. As a result, the Communications Center automated many manual tasks, reduced paging costs and TAP-line delays, and cut responder notification times from several hours to, depending on the situation, just several minutes—ensuring faster, more reliable emergency communications.
