The customer, Brückmann Elektronik, was tasked by a manufacturer of ultrasonic welding systems to integrate a real-time PROFINET interface into a new device controller. The challenge was to achieve this with minimal hardware changes, a short timeline, and limited resources, all while avoiding a costly and time-consuming certification process and major system redesign. The vendor, Hilscher, provided the netRAPID 90 communication module as the core solution.

Hilscher's netRAPID 90 module, which came preloaded with the PROFINET stack, was integrated via an SPI interface to the existing STM32 controller. This solution operated in stand-alone mode, offloading the communication processing from the already-busy main controller and ensuring robust data exchange.
