Merck processes millions of samples annually with HighRes automation

Merck's Discovery Sample Management team faced the challenge of managing one of the most complex compound logistics operations in pharmaceutical discovery, requiring the processing of millions of samples annually. To address this, they partnered with HighRes to implement and evolve their high-throughput screening and sample management platforms, utilizing HighRes automation systems and the Cellario software.

The solution involved the deep integration of HighRes automation with Merck's Scigilian Request and Mosaic LIMS systems to create an end-to-end, auditable fulfillment workflow. Merck operates multiple HighRes systems, including a mirrored pair of primary cells and an upgraded first-generation system, which have achieved record processing volumes. The results include significantly improved reliability from a robot upgrade and nine years of continuous, viable operation demonstrating the long-term upgradability of the HighRes platform.
