Weather Centre Secures Remote Access with HID Global’s Strong Authentication

The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) needed to provide secure remote access to its supercomputers for meteorological offices across Europe. Their outdated proprietary token system was expensive to maintain and difficult to use. The challenge for HID Global was to replace this system with a robust, cost-effective solution that would integrate with ECMWF's existing proprietary entity management system.

HID Global implemented its strong authentication solution, which included the 4TRESS AAA Server for Remote Access and Keychain Tokens. This open standards-based solution seamlessly integrated with the customer's infrastructure, provided a user-friendly self-help portal, and significantly reduced administrative costs. The new tokens have a six-year lifespan, double that of the previous system, and the solution has already been reliably rolled out to 1,000 users with plans to extend it to 2,000 more.
