Using Active RFID for Yard Management and Consigned Inventory Tracking

A large manufacturer and distributor company in the energy industry partnered with HID Global to solve the challenge of tracking its consigned inventory. The customer needed an accurate way to measure partially used product upon its return from utility yards and to reduce inventory shrinkage, as their product is shipped, used on-site by customers, and then returned.

HID Global implemented a solution using HID Power 415 active RFID tags, gateway readers, and customized Asset Tracking software with RTLS. The system tracks assets from dispatch to return, using gateways to monitor yard movement and a scale to measure remaining product. This provided the customer with accurate, real-time inventory management, which reduced shrinkage and increased customer uptime. HID Global is helping the manufacturer roll out this multi-tenant solution across all its customer sites.
