UPM Elevates its Access Control with Secure Yet Convenient On-the-go Authentication

UPM, a Finnish company operating a pulp mill in Uruguay, faced significant challenges with employee authentication for its shared transportation service. The process of manually verifying IDs at a remote checkpoint caused major traffic delays, security inefficiencies, and a loss of productive working hours. To resolve this, UPM partnered with HID Global.

HID Global, with Alutel Mobility, implemented a solution using HID OMNIKEY mobile readers integrated into tablets and HID Seos smart cards. This allowed security personnel to authenticate employees directly on the buses, eliminating the need for them to disembark. The result was a drastic reduction in processing time, improved security with photo verification, and the ability to operate offline. The system registers approximately 14,000 events monthly, saving time and streamlining access control across the facility.
