Case Study: West African Examinations Council reduces exam fraud with HID Global mobile student ID system

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has adopted a mobile ID system

The West African Examinations Council faced widespread identity fraud and a slow, manual exam registration and validation process across more than 13,000 centers in Nigeria. To improve security and efficiency, the council worked with HID Global on a mobile ID system using machine-readable smart cards and handheld readers for student verification.

HID Global helped design and deploy a secure issuance and validation solution, including software, hardware, and support for card personalization. The result was real-time authentication for more than 2.2 million students, reduced exam fraud, less paperwork, and a stronger, more reliable exam process, with 15,000 mobile readers distributed nationwide.
