A HID Global Case Study
Sparkasse Wolfach, a savings bank in Germany, faced an increasing demand for stronger IT security to protect sensitive data and comply with auditing requirements. Their challenge was to implement a strong authentication solution for employee system logon that went beyond just usernames and passwords. The vendor, HID Global, provided its DigitalPersona authentication software and U.are.U 4500 fingerprint readers to address this need.
HID Global's biometric solution was implemented with the support of partners Finanz Informatik and MTRIX, securing Windows logon with both a fingerprint and password. The rollout was successful, with good acceptance among the bank's 84 employees, and was fully completed by August 2012. The results included increased security through strong "proof-of-presence" authentication, improved employee productivity with simpler access, and reduced costs by eliminating the need to replace lost physical tokens.
