A HID Global Case Study
The Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales, y Puertos, a Spanish civil engineering organization, faced a challenge with its cumbersome, paper-based system for reviewing and approving public works plans. They needed a legally binding digital signature solution to streamline the approval of over 20 million plan reviews annually and eliminate the massive physical storage of documents. They partnered with HID Global to implement a smart card-based solution to address these inefficiencies.
HID Global provided its ActivClient smart card middleware and partnered with ipsCA for a PKI and digital signature solution. This enabled engineers to securely sign PDF documents electronically, making the process legally valid and binding. The solution drastically reduced the time and cost associated with the approval process. The organization anticipated that its $1.2 million technology investment would result in savings of over $90 million in just one year.
