Sophisticated Government Access Solution Protects City Assets, Preserves Personal Safety and Ensures Building Integrity

The City of Los Angeles, a major metropolitan government, faced a challenge with its outdated and disparate legacy access control systems. Managing numerous card types across 41 departments was administratively draining and created security vulnerabilities. They needed a future-proof, integrated solution to improve physical and logical security, support multi-agency emergency response, and preserve historical buildings. The city partnered with vendor HID Global, utilizing their iCLASS smart card and Prox readers.

HID Global's solution provided a centralized system using their iCLASS 13.56 MHz and Prox 125 kHz technologies. This included a unique Corporate 1000 card program for the city, featuring a hologram seal to prevent counterfeiting and allowing a single card for both access control and expense tracking. The system, which supports over 10,000 users with capacity for over a million, integrated with biometric readers for higher security. The result is a streamlined, state-of-the-art access control solution that ensures building integrity, enhances security, and provides the flexibility for future expansions and emergency response capabilities.
