Smart Card System Update Saves Time and Money, Increases Security for University Students

University of Murcia, a large Spanish university with about 30,000 students, needed a better way to manage its student bus transportation plans and prevent manual counting, overuse, and poor visibility into bus demand. Working with bus operator Autocares Espuña, it sought a secure, easy-to-use system using HID Global contactless smart cards and readers.

HID Global, through integrator Protelsa, implemented an iCLASS RW300 reader/writer and iCLASS contactless smart cards, along with GPS, messaging, and database features. The new system let drivers instantly validate riders with clear visual/audio feedback, improved fleet monitoring and usage tracking, and helped the university save time and money while increasing security for students and drivers.
