A HID Global Case Study
Earth Sciences Foundation needed a better way to track fossils from excavation to analysis, since paper field notebooks and spreadsheets often caused data loss, errors, and gaps between a specimen and its context. Working with HID Global and partners, the nonprofit sought an RFID-based workflow to improve accuracy, accessibility, and preservation tracking.
HID Global helped implement RFID tags and readers integrated with GIS and field mapping tools so each fossil could be tagged, scanned, and monitored through storage, prep, study, and display. The result was a 99% accurate tracking process, 347 fossils catalogued in just five days, and an 80% improvement in workflows, with near real-time visibility and far less manual data entry.
